Surly Gates is an amazing five piece garage psych group from Texas, Austin to be precise.. This band first caught my attention when I introduced into them ongakubaka blog , and I couldn’t believe my ears! It was the EP that was perfect in every way, they’re definitely totally awesome.
Surly Gates churn out loud garage psych-sludge. This first effort is particularly stellar, with it’s classic garage -psych-surf guitar and bass riffs carrying the song, while the guitar occasionally degenerates into cathartic squalls and shrieks. It’s equally rooted in the ’60s garage boon and the widespread psych garage resurgence that definitely seems to be going on right now.
Obviously you should check this one out, is free of charge, over at bandcamp, and I can´t wait for a vinyl version…
